Online Book Club

Over on Goodreads readers Wilhelmina and Rona moderate the Literary Fiction by People of Color Book Club. Rather than starting a new club here, I'm joining theirs and encouraging you to as well. This club reads more than black authors, so I will continue to spotlight books each month specifically by black authors as that's the mission of this blog. However, I am ALL FOR everybody reading everybody and love the idea of diversifying my own bookshelves! So I'm really looking forward to it.

In March we're reading The Gangster We Are All Looking For byLê Thi Diem Thúy. The discussion begins March 1.

Maude knows I have more than enough going on, but I would be interested in hearing highlights of your discussion.

And do I need one more book to add to my tbr? lol Thanks, Carleen.

Thanks, Carleen, for letting everyone know about the group. I just wanted to second Carleen's invitation to all of you. Once you join, you can participate as much or as little as you would like. And past discussions can be accessed from the group page. We've recently discussed Toni Morrison's A Mercy, Colson Whitehead's Apex Hides The Hurt, and Percival Everett's Erasure, among others. Don't be discouraged because the group is classified as private. You are very welcome and will be quickly approved. See you on Goodreads!

I recently heard the author read with Chris Abani here in D.C. I was able to get a signed copy of this book. It had been on the back burner (other things to digest as fuel for my novel) but I will place it higher on the list.
