Celebrate E. Lynn Harris!

Readers, authors and booksellers around the country will celebrate the release of E. Lynn Harris' final novel, Mama Dearest, on September 25. Check to see if there's an event in your town. Whether there is one or not, pick up a copy of Mama Dearest and help make this a #1 national bestseller in honor of E. Lynn Harris' life.

For locations on tribute events go here.

As always, I encourage you to shop locally, but I will link to BN.com (which features a great article about Harris) on this post because purchases there count toward the NY Times bestsellers list.

RIP E. Lynn Harris

In his honor I'm re-running my brief post from when E. Lynn Harris was in town to promote his novel Basketball Jones. One of the things he said struck me. Paraphrasing him, he said, While I'm proud of all the adjectives used to describe me, I don't want to be limited to any kind of story. I want to write whatever kind of story God puts in my heart.

E. Lynn Harris on labels

E. Lynn Harris appeared at the Tattered Cover here in Denver Monday eve to promote his new NY Times bestselling book Basketball Jones. One of the things he said struck me. Paraphrasing him, he said, While I'm proud of all the adjectives used to describe me, I don't want to be limited to any kind of story. I want to write whatever kind of story God puts in my heart.

Harris became famous writing about gay men on "the down low" and Basketball Jones has a gay protagonist. He said his plan is to write 2 books a year, 1 "gay" and 1 "straight."
